Dr Rajesh Bhatia is an accredited specialist Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist and Interventional Endoscopist. He has over 25 years of clinical experience, working both overseas and in Australia. He is passionate about delivering a high-quality patient experience and believes that excellent communication along with an evidence-based approach is the cornerstone to providing holistic patient centered care.
Raj is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). Following his graduation, he completed his training in Gastroenterology, and attained a fellowship in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) from USA, a specialised skill in his area of practice.
Raj has VMO appointments through Eastern Health, where he does endoscopy and is passionately involved in educating and training junior doctors and medical students.
He works through Epworth Eastern and Knox Private Hospital, where he consults and performs gastroscopies, colonoscopies and EUS, offering comprehensive gastroenterology services.
Areas of special interest:
1) Evaluation and treatment of iron deficiency 2) Colonoscopies for polyp surveillance and National Bowel Screening programme 3) Irritable Bowel Syndrome and its management with diet and lifestyle modification, focussing on food intolerances and working on the mind gut axis 4) Endoscopic surveillance of Barrett’s and gastric intestinal metaplasia 5) Management of Fatty Liver, NASH and associated complications 6) Treating liver conditions including Hepatitis B and C, haemochromatosis and autoimmune liver disease 7) Endoscopic Ultrasound for evaluation of pancreatic cysts, tumours and pancreatitis, biliary pathology like gall bladder microlithiasis and obstructive jaundice evaluation Outside of work, Raj enjoys swimming, cycling and meditation. He values spending time with his family and friends. He is always ready for a good cup of coffee.
